How would one go about adding a side door to a prebuilt stand without risking the integrity of the stand?

It would probably be best to attach some pictures of the outside and inside of the stand so those who are into carpentry can better determine structural integrity.

Build your own stand! Not sure how to answer your question without knowing your current stand and having an understanding of the engineering in its build and what engineering would be necessary to add strength.

That's why I say build your own....that's what I did. Used @RocketEngineer 's plan.....

And here it is skinned and prior to being painted with a finish coat.

I already built a stand per RocketEngineers plans, I need to skin it still. However, I found an awesome deal on a prebuilt stand that I really like the looks of.

I guess to have more access for filter socks, etc... I may be over thinking it. None of my other stands had a side door and I manages quite well without one.

I thought it was for controllers and wire management.
You could build an extra cabinet with out the back board and attache it to the OG stand

Here is one I did to a friend, but it was for controller purposes. White part is an extension to the cabinet

This is exactly what I needed to see. Do you have any other pictures or drawings on how you built this?

I know I could wing it like I always do when building stuff but this is exactly what I need for my tank do to limited space next to it

@eggie did you use paint or is that a product you covered the wood with? Love it!

So you attached everything to the actual stand and the frame is just to make it look like a cabinet? Simple but impressive

No. The whole cabinet is laminated. There’s new laminating materials that makes stands look polished
New laminating materials? Where did you find it?

No, I just mean back in the days there just use to be white laminate and the finishes were noticeable because they were made of wood. Now there is better laminates made of PVC or acrylic that shine and the finishes are less noticeable
