Can I add algae to my tank as desired or do I need to wait for the “break in” period to complete?

I want a colourful array (but not over done) so my puffer has cool looking things to swim by.

You can add macro algae. You will need a good light and some nutrients to keep it alive.
Gracilaria hayi is a easy red one. It might be hard to find a long piece. Most sellers cut off small branches.
