I have some dry base rock that was once in the tank, It had a bunch of nutrients, so I replaced it ,then was scrubbed well & placed in a darkened brute can with water changes . I call this process "cooking" . this is to draw out the Po4/Ho3 . That was at least a year ago, Now the level are way down I'm considering putting this rock back into the tank.
Tests last night . No3 < 5 Po4 o.14

Would You cure & cycle this rock this rock 1st or save the hassle & just put it in?
Sorry for the long prologue .

Ha! Awesome that you do all that work. I've placed fresh dry rock directly into my DT. The result is I've had to do battle with an assortment of diatoms, algaes etc. that probably could have been avoided if I had done more than a powerwash before using the rock. ;)

That phosphate is still pretty high. I'd consider doing a few lanthanum chloride baths following by curing in the brute. :)

That what has happened to me ! Bad Hair algae. In fact. the 2 rocks I want to replace are dry base & growing terrible HA. I want to see if a long cook ( nothing to do with heat in any way), actually worked. I'm certainly in no hurry & can now cycle this rock. I think the nutrient levels are acceptable.
Thanks for the reply !
