Sadly I do not have much room in my sump to sanction a part to a refugium. the image attached is exactly the sump I have. the middle center part with the open space is occupied with my heater and protein skimmer and the occasional chemipure/polyfilter.

Thing is I have been having A LOT of detritus build up due to seaweed being filtered out whenever tangs/foxfaces rip the pieces apart and some float into the column.

Would it be cruel/bad to throw a couple snails/inverts in there to handle the build up? I do siphon it out during water changes but that can get really annoying.

I think Serpent starfish and Nassarius snails would do good for detritus

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you think they would be fine being in a space with a heater and skimmer? There is no sand in that portion either. But detritus will be enough for them to survive

I think so...You could also supplement the feedings with pellets and meaty food for the star.

I will look into this! My only worry is if the star gets too big where it can move much cause of the confined space lol. Then i guess at that point it goes to Display

Oh wow I did not know that lol. From a quick search it looks like theyre more so hitchhikers rather than something thats bought at a LFS. So i'll definitely ask around to get some somehow
