Good evening. I recently (early March) set up a IM 150 INT. Planning on fish and corals. Current fish are:

2 Springori Damsels
2 Yellow Clown Gobies
1 Green Coris Wrasse
1 Flame Angel (small)

I would like to add some Tangs, waiting a few months for the tank to get more established. My initial plan, which I had bounced off various shop owners with no problem was:

1. Purple Tang
2. Powder Blue
3. Orange Shoulder

I know the Purple and Powder Blue are aggressive, but thought that adding them in reverse order they would do ok. Just had a conversation with the lady running a shop who said they'd get way to big for my 150 and fight each other constantly. So trying to get any opinions. The Orange Shoulder has always been my favorite so would settle for him, but would be disappointed and need to find something else to fill the tank with.

Edit: If this doesn’t work, are there three tangs that could fit in this tank or should I just move on to a new idea?

Dave

Your best chance of being successful is adding all three at the same time.

With that said…Orange Shoulders get pretty big and will eventually outgrow your tank.

Powder blues can become menaces down the road.

Powder and Orange Shoulder are both Acanthurus so have more of a propensity to fight.

Make sure to QT all of them…ich/velvet is a pain.

I absolutely love Orange Shoulder Tangs as well, and had one doing nicely in my 150-gallon, until a heater disaster. But I will not be replacing him, because being honest with myself, I could see that long-term he wouldn't stay happy in a 150 as he grew. In fact I have gone in the other size direction-- a Tomini Tang.
