Affects of Chlorine?

What are the affects of chlorine in reef tanks? In the past I've cleaned my filter socks with tap water and added them back to the tank. While I haven't experienced any noticeable problems, I don't want something to happen.

Generally shouldn't be a problem if you get as much of the water out of the items as possible before placing back into aquarium. What size tank ?

60 gallon tank with probably 10 gallon sump

I agree it is not a concern. The effect would be irritated organisms.
