African Grey Parrots?

Has anyone heard of a caique? Anyone own one? Seems they are way less demanding them greys?

a reef im sure is easier than a parrot. You also can make money off of your tank if you do it right. I dont think you can make money off of your parrot unless you lease him/her out durring halloween to sit on a pirates shoulder...

lol yea you're right! But for me it's more about how much time I will need to spend with the parrot to make sure it's completely happy, i'm not worried about the money part....

It's hard to quantify how much time but let's just say a lot! And then you never know if your parrot decides it likes someone else in the family, someone who is not into the parrot thing and your bird spends it's time defending it's new person. They have complex behaviors and personalities. Read, read and get on some bird forums. I guess it's no different than with our fish and corals. The worst choice is the one you make spur of the moment because you gotta have that fish or that coral.
All that said, I love keeping birds but have learned the hard way that more is not better and get a bird from the best breeder you can't really afford. You truly get what you pay for. Bargain birds are no bargain. Good luck and hope all this doesn't scare you away but makes you learn about your prospective purchase.

I had a black capped caique. My Aunt has him now. Really awesome bird but super super demanding. Very loud. Very playful. Just a mini African grey. Here is the thing with birds. Imagine having a dog that doesn't wag. Instead it barks to show you it's affection. Your bird eventually will scream at the top of its lungs every time the front door open, every time you get on the phone, every time you leave the room. It's just their way of communicating. Eventually you find yourself doing things like only making phone calls upstairs. And then you realize caiques live for 40 years. Unless you are a dihard bird person like my aunt you will eventually hate the parrot like I did.
