Ai prime lens melted

Likely the light was too low to a glass cover or similar raising temperature within the housing. Cheaper may be to find a non working unit and use it as a parts fixture

You are dead on with the glass top, and when I took the light apart, there was so much grime and dust. I'm surprised the fan even moved. And after cleaning it ( took about 20 mins ) the gan is dead silent

Honestly, it's probably fine. Do you have access to a par meter fr your lfs or local club? If so, test the par an put your mind at ease.


What kinds of coral do you want to keep?

For those who run this light, is the led configuration the same as the hd version, but without the ability to over drive? If so, I will test the par on my prime HD with UV on and off and post it here.

Non hd is 13 leds 16 is 16.
Lens is totally different

Only way to tell is use it.
With that. Id run UV and Blues 100%
<10% on whats left except white at whatever level your eyes like.
Try 30% to start for white.
I understand the budget.

That's a good tip, thanks. I was really confused on how to set my light up and what % to run it and stuff. I'll try that tomorrow

I don't, no local clubs here. My lfs might but idk. If someone does have a par meter and ai prime non hd. That would be really helpful

For funzies I just cycled through each uv/blue channel of my prime 16 hd at 100% one at a time while measuring with an apogee mq510 par meter. The par meter sensor was about 10 inches below the water line and the light is about 12 inches below the water line.

The UV and violet LEDs each contributed about nothing to the par. The par for those was like 10. The royal blue and the blue had the maximum effect, with close to 100 par each.

I'm wondering if the uv channel is for our benefit rather than for the coral.

OP, I would use the light you have and not worry.

Tried the 100uv 100blues and 30white and it looks really good. Kept green and red at 5 each but they didn't make any difference to the colour tbh

What is your tank sitting on? The spacer between the glass and the stand??

They are just spacers that come with the aquanano 40, don't really like them and I don't think they actually serve a purpose

So is it just the four little spacers, one on each corner, that hold the weight of the tank? Or is there some structure there I'm not seeing?

Nah its exactly just that, and they are plastic lol

Yep that, they r popular in ireland because there is only one fish shop in the country and they sell it beginner pack with that aquarium, sand, live rock, 2 clowns, 3 hermits and 3 snails for like 360euro.

A lot of people bought those and when they leave the hobby or upgrade, the end up selling them for not much 2nd hand. And that's where I come in :cool:

If you made this your self I would call you crazy, but I guess if it's a commercial product... probably it's been tested.

Yep, and that's why I didn't question it when I set the tank up. They are just stuck on by glue or something so they aren't that hard to take off if you wanted

Even buying it used, you will eventually spend thousands. But hey, maybe not tens of thousands.
