Sadly I have a problem with my ritteri anemone (notoriously hard to keep happy but with mature tank, a lot of research and as an experienced reefkeeper I was airing on the side of positivity). Been in the tank since Thursday. All seemed to be going great but now it seems to have taken air in and now has trapped air bubbles, he’s very flat, has had moments of gastric exertion out of his mouth and has been gaping.
The air trapped has led to him actually appearing to be sitting upright, at a 90 degree angle pointing up. Looks very unnatural.

I have quarantined him, placed him under good light, small power head nearby to deliver appropriate current and safe from vigorous clownfish.

I have heard that you can massage these out but have not spoken with any successful reef keepers that have done it and I’m hesitant to add more stress by doing it.

Tank parameters all within expressed limits - Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate between 0-10. API and verified with another test, hardness, calcium, phosphate, pH and temp all good. Strong lighting suitable for the nem. Mature tank >1 year old seeded originally with 8 year old tank media. Size 450 litres. Clowns hosting from same nem as in the shop as I bought them together.

Any suggestions/advice would be very welcome.

Thank You

that thing looks to need cipro treatment ASAP. The airbubbles wouldn't really be a concern to me right now to be honest.

Body compressed, Mouth out, Tents compressed....etc.

Deflation of tentacles typical of bacterial infections very common in mag/ritteri, needs cipro treatment asap.
Check sticky in nem forum how I cipro by amoo
