Not sure what this is, but it’s taking over my tank. Low nutrients, flakes off the rocks. Best I could do to capture it.

Something else. Not a common nuisance - would love to see more.

I’ve battled Dino’s before. These guys are stationary and very tiny. Is that a trait of Coolia?

I remember h2o2, high ph, low temp, and reefrx helped nuke them.

these guys seem to strive no matter what! :/

No it's not, as taricha said these are crysophytes. They aren't toxic and usually run their course IME. I most often see them in tanks with elevated silicon. Have you ever done an ICP?

It’s been a while, I’m going to say I have high silicate. I’m not sure how to reduce that. Maybe the sand or the rock.

I’ve used lithium chloride to reduce phosphates before. Is there anything that ties up excess silicate?

Usually there's no need to as it's completely non toxic and once it's used up the organisms that use it will go back to lower numbers. The main thing is why would you have elevated silicates? Recently added sand/rock? RO/DI unit not working correctly? Or have you been dosing it to battle dinos?

GFO also removes silicates but as you know PO4 as well. The problem is it would be easy to bottom out PO4 while trying to eliminate the benign silicates.

All the threads on this type are a bit scattered and a mix of accurate info and people trying a bunch of things that didn't work very well.
this thread by @ScottB has some of the best info.

another chrysophyte thread.

I want to add this has destroyed my gonis, torches, hammers, open brains, and scolis. I probably have over 3k in losses from this mess. I don’t think this can be seen as something that will take it’s natural course. I would encourage everyone to go after this “golden algae” aggressively.

To add insult to injury, maintenace on the tank also caused both my apex Wav to die yesterday (stuck in Stall) so…

I love this hobby. Deep breath.
