I want to add an algae eating blenny with some color. I am looking at the Orange spotted blenny Orange Spotted Blenny (Blenniella chrysospilos). My tank is very peaceful. I've heard aggression issues with the Starry and Lawnmower -so I'd like other options. I would like a blenny species that:
  • Has some color
  • Is not aggressive
  • Eats algae
  • Safe with LPS corals
  • Compatible with my pair of Midas blennies
Anyone with an Orange Spotted - how is its behavior? Any other blenny suggestions (besides lawnmower and starry)?

I have an orange spotted blenny. He eats algae ok, not great, but is busy at it. I currently don't have any other algae eating blennies, but am hoping to add an ember or chestnut blenny in the future. I have a 4' tank, and think that they will coexist. My orange spot hasn't bothered any of my corals.

Thanks for the feedback. I love the ember blenny. I had one go through QT where it ate Reef Frenzy & PE mysis . Once in display I saw ember eat pods & rasp some algae. But I never saw it eat mysis etc. in DT. I would blow mysis/Reef Frenzy into its cave with baster since it was reclusive. Sadly yesterday I found it starved in my tank. I would have removed it to fatten it up in separate tank but I thought it was eating when I wasn't watching. I would only see its head peeking out so I did not know it was not eating in its burrow. Feeling guilty.

It's incredibly frustrating to have a fish go on a hunger strke.
