No system should be without one!

Brand new - I made a prototype and am using it (see last picture - about 2 weeks of growth) and I perfected the design with this one. I had a few people asking about these. It comes with a brand new RIO 600 pump. I set these up so the algae sheet is just touching the water in the sump so let me know what your water level is and I will preset the side height. Or you can just cut the PVC yourself (in which case I won't attach either end of the long pipe). I also don't attach the bottom of the uprights they are just friction fit. This has proven to be fine or else you can glue them together. But for shipping they will come unconnected. Also note the union for taking the sheet out for cleaning once it is full of algae. Comes with @2 feet of 1/2" ID hose but ask if you need a longer length!

May come slightly damp as I set it up and run it in the laundry sink to test operation.

Note: The sheet will not have a full water sheeting over it until the algae starts to grow and create paths for the water to fully populate the screen.

I suggest a cheap shop light hung upside down with a 100 watt equivalent CFL 2700 K bulb. I get great growth out of it! You can light one or both sides of the screen. Both sides are fully roughed up.

$85 shipped. PM if interested. Paypal preferred!

The algae sheet is 10.5x13.5 inches for 141 sq inches x 2 sides so 282 inches total. I think conventional belief for an ATS is 1-2 sq inches/gallon.

So in theory, if you used both sides, it can support @ a 200 gallon tank.

Great, thanks and I'll think hard about it. I'll be setting up a new 125g soon.

With the open air design, do you have any particular odor or smell?

No smell at all from what I can detect. Algae in general has an earthy, clean smell though. If you get right up on it in a big clump you will smell that. From a distance there is no smell though.

I have a diy ats I made I don't know what size pump I should run on it. Tank size is 100 gallons total water volume. Screen size is 10"x10" light on both sides. Pump to top of waterfall is about 17"

The 1-2sq inches per gal is not recommended anymore. The recommendation now is 12sq inches (lit on both sides or 24sq inches lit on one side) for each cube of frozen food (or equivalent feeding amount) fed per day.

And then the recommended flow is 35 gph per inch that the screen is wide. So in your case with a 10 inch wide screen it is recommended to have around 350gph flow after head loss :)
