Since dropping my NOPOX dose due to realised over dosing I have been trying to get PH up from 7.8 to 8.3/5 so adding seachem marine buffer over the last week and checking Alk. Yesterday my Alk jumped from 8.2 to 10.4. what the heck!
Hopefully just a blip in testing using Hanna.

Are you using their 8.3? That raises your alk. What's your pH now?
They say Ph wont go above 8.3. No idea how they can make that statement. It's at 8.0 as of last test.
Surely such a rise would have caused issues in the tank? Not seeing any thing of concern.
I should have retested I guess. I'll do another WC today and test.

I use it too, and I don't push pH past 8.0 because my alk gets to high 9s or low 10s. I use Salifert alk test for that. My pH is at 8.0 and 10.5ish...I think with this product 8.0 pH means alk in that 10.5 range. I hope some chemists can help us out.

Based on the instructions Seachem Marine Buffer will raise Alk.

So 5g in 20 gal will raise Alk by 1 meq/L

or 2.8 dKH…

I would dose carefully and if used I would check Alk often.

Maybe you can raise your pH by running a fuge or getting a scrubber? I am perfectly ok with 8, I won't chase it if I don't have to.

Runn a refuge of sorts
But maybe can move things around. Started running lights through night to increase photosynthesis.
Have skimmer hose out top of my light. Maybe I should had a air stone to the refugium

Another misleading claim from Seachem, though it is true your pH is unlikely to get raised much by Seachem Marine Buffer. I do not recommend it for any reef purpose, and it is not very effective if boosting pH is the goal.

I have noticed near ZERO change in PH but Alk definitely went up.
That or my PH meter is knackered
