Hello All, I am looking for some advice on stabilizing my alkalinity. I have had very small swings in Alk (less than 0.2 swing in a 24 hour period) for quite awhile now. About a month ago we changed internet providers and a new wifi network, needless to say, all things automated on my reef were off network and there was a struggle with getting some items on the new network. During this time, my auto doser went off schedule and I noticed my Alk slowly rising, so I stopped dosing for half a day, then set it to a lower dose amount and let it come down slowly. I have been running my Alk at 7.9-8.0 prior to this. Lowering the dose amount per day, it slowly went back down to 8.0. Now, leaving it at this lower dose, it is now creeping back up again. here are the latest readings since getting it back to 8.0

9/30/25: 8.0 @7am
9/30/25: 8.1 @7pm
10/1/25: 8.1 @8am
10/1/25: 8.2 @8pm
10/3/25: 8.2 @8am
10/3/25: 8.4 @8pm
10/4/25: 8.4 @12pm
10/5/25: 8.5 @11am

The trend shows it slowly rising again even though my dosing amount per day is still 7ml less than it had been prior to this and it was always stable at 7.9-8.0 Any thoughts as to why this is happening? Should I lower the dose amount again? Just can't figure out why it keeps going up. Thanks!

ALK consumption is variable, it's been hot outside in MN this last week; just guessing but have you had your windows closed and the air on in your house causing lower average pH the last week ot two? Lower pH = less ALK consumption so if dosing at the same rate it will go up slowly.

Wow very interesting. We have had the air on a lot recently due to weather, but not sure if it's been much more than typical all summer long. About the only test kit I don't have is pH as I was told if the other parameters are in check then pH will be. Maybe I should be testing pH?

A pH monitor is better than a test kit. pH fluctuates a lot throughout a 24 hour period. It's not uncommon for a .2-.3 daily swing. Having a lot of people/pets, closed windows create high Co2 in the house which drops pH and reduced ALK consumption.
