What is the current thinking on nutrients and alkalinity levels. I remember reading that higher alkalinity levels with low nutrients is bad. Right now I have:
Alk 8.3
nitrate 5
phosphate .03
ca 440
mg 1400
my salt mix is closer to alk 9. is it safe to slowly raise my alk to 9 with these nutrient levels? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That is a general trend, however it is usually more for systems running lower/undectable. You should be fine raising it to 9 which will probably increase growth a little also.
