Brand new to reefing. Just got a Tideline 62 AIO. Came with filter socks which from what I understand are a pain. Don't want to spend $120 on media baskets (kreative reefer) just to decide I'm going to upgrade to the N-Clear fleece roller later. Will likely put 8-10 fish in the tank with a good amount of LPS and softies. No SPS in the plan.

What filtration do you have? Why do you like it? What would you recommend for my tank? Thanks for the help!

Socks aren’t bad if you’re good about changing them every 2 or 3 days. If you’re going with a roller, I would just use socks until you get the roller. No reason to spend money on a media basket then spend again on the roller. If you do stick with socks, grab extras to change them out easily.

Agreed. I used socks on my 90G for five years and never had a problem. I ran 2 socks in my system with 6 extra that I rotated through. Yanked them out, washed, rinsed and repeated. That was the only real work.

I run a reverse undergravel filter over dolomite gravel. State of the art in 1971.

It is still running since then, but you don't want it because everyone will make fun of you and tell you that your tank will crash in 2 weeks. 🤣
