I'm super close to having my first reef aquarium ready to go, and I just have a laundry list of final questions I need to try to have answered before I get into buying the live sand and rock and cycling.
Tank Lid - It seems to me most tanks are sold without lids, but should I buy one? I am worried about the dust and pet hair (from my one cat) getting into the system and causing something bad to happen. Is a lid a good idea, or is my worry unfounded? Will fish jump? Will a lid require my lighting to be more intense, and how do people without lids keep their fish inside and maintained?
Reefmat 500/Filter Socks - I have an RFS 39 Sump from IM (it came with the tank I bought, IM EXT 100) It's kind of ridiculously huge, so I was wondering if I could skip filter socks entirely and simply put the Reefmat in the same chamber as the skimmer(I have a Tunze DOC DC 9410 as my skimmer)? Will the universal joint still work for my tank, or do I have to forego it simply because I don't have a Red Sea? Do I even need to connect the hose to the Reefmat, or can it simply spin the roll in the water without having the water be directly pumped in?
ATO - Simply looking for recommendations for an ATO, preferably something small and quiet! Can even be a DIY thing.
Dosing - I had initially asked this question when I had asked about controllers on one of my older posts. Many people told me I should forego the controller entirely for now and do it manually until I have a hang on what this tank needs to survive. Is there any kind of all-in-one solution to this to make it simpler for a new reefer? If so, can someone recommend me one? I know this is probably dependent on my livestock choices, but I still would like to see what people have used so I can decide. I am doing a mixed reef for my 100G.

Lighting - 2x AI Hydra 32 (Might buy a third when my tank is older, if it is needed)
Heating - 2x 400w BRS Heaters w/ Helio Controller
Skimmer - Tunze 9410 DOC DC
Return Pump - Comes with tank
Powerheads - 2x Jebao MCP-90
