I wanted to get this data collected into a single area.

If you are dosing Randy’s ammonium bicarbonate solution at 20g/L. Please share your current dosing regimen.

Please leave brief answers in the following format

1) Your Tank/sump water volume (aka minus rocks)
2) Daily total dose in mL
3) How many doses that total amount is divided into (aka you only dose once or split it into multiple small doses)
4) how long have you been dosing ammonium bicarb (weeks, months, etc)
5) nitrate level current or target.

Thanks

IM nuvo 170 with sump, maybe 150 gallons
3 doses daily of 10-11ml 30 totalish
Dosing for 6 months
Nitrates are 9 ish. Ide like to be 15-20

At this time.
2ml a day in a 8.3 tank with 7 gallons of water. My doser is set to 1ml at noon and 1ml at 6pm every day. Been dosing for months now. Last checked Sat. No3 4

I would love to see more data gathered on this.

I have a 15 gallon tank, started out with nitrates and phosphates flatlined at zero for weeks/months, no notable diatom/dino/cyano outbreak.

I have been dosing 2.5 ml twice a day (5ml total) and as of last test 2.2 ppm Nitrates, although I am overdue for a test and will update this thread later.

I have been dosing 0.4 ppm ammonia since I restarted my tank one year ago. I just reduced that to 0.2 ppm this week to see if nitrate would come down. I separate into 0.1 ppm doses. My current nitrate is about 40 ppm

100 total gallons. Dosed for 2 years.
10 ml per day split into 12 doses around the clock.
Target 5 to 10 ppm
6 month range 5 to 17ppm
Recently quit due to discontinued use or afr, which is a (reduced) form of carbon dosing.

1. 65g total
2. A bit different here as I dosed randomly based on test results.

3. 10ml all at once when dosed.
4. Just over 3 months.
5. Currently 11ppm. I'm good with 11ppm after having had to dose nitrate for 2 years to stay above zero.

How do you plan to use this data?

1) Your Tank/sump water volume (aka minus rocks) -- 55g / 30g sump
2) Daily total dose in mL - 2ml
3) How many doses that total amount is divided into (aka you only dose once or split it into multiple small doses) -- all day dosing via Apex. It's automatic (likely around 0.2ml per hour for 10 hours).
4) how long have you been dosing ammonium bicarb (weeks, months, etc) -- 3 months
5) nitrate level current or target. -- less than 10 ppm.

I can get a sense of everyone’s daily ppm dose. Gives me a framework with how much I should probably be dosing. I don’t think anyone has data on this but if 20-30 people respond are basically dosing about .1ppm to 0.2ppm daily than there’s your answer. It wasn’t clear how high people were titrating their daily dose. It doesn’t look to be too far off from that.

There are also some suggestion that maybe a lower nitrate is better so I wanted to see ballpark where people were at. That seems to be more variable so far.

1) 35 actual total gallons
2) 10 ml / 0.32ppm daily.
3) Divided into 8 doses during photoperiod.
4) 1 year
5) 10

It’s going to be a hard thing to translate to a different tank since the amount of ammonia added by fish and the amount of ammonia and/or nitrate consumed by organisms will vary greatly.

Well for what it’s worth here is the average daily doses. I separated small tanks from larger tanks as there was a big difference.

9 responses 50g or more water volume
Daily dose mean 0.16ppm (+/- 0.07)

4 responses less than 50g water volume
Daily dose mean 0.37ppm (+/- 0.06)

My take. Most people dose 0.1-.2ppm per day. Titrating to more than 0.3 is probably not needed but obviously depends on your set up.
