And now for something a little different ...

Disaster

Apparently when I plumbed my bonus tank into my sump I created a feedback loop:

Without the ability to leverage the biofiltration of the whole system, my heavy feeding regime seems to have created an ammonia spike, which wiped out the whole bonus tank:

The corals and clams seemed unphased by the ammonia spike, so I will consider that a silver lining.

I chose to look at this challenge as an opportunity. I had been eyeing a pair of mocha storm clowns that conveniently went on sale a week after this all went down. Into the shopping cart they went:

This frag took a nose dive a few weeks ago when my alk level plummeted. A few small areas seem to have survived and are brighter than ever.

And this impulse buy, that was on the slow path to death has re-emerged.

I really love the green highlights against the purple body:

The PBT is doing well in QT. I haven't seen him eat much, but he is active.

The PBT didn't make it. I had purchased him through a suspect vendor on Facebook and when I went to pick him up, I realized that he had been poorly bagged and had signs of recent fighting.

If you look closely you can see some kind of torments entrusting the skin. I've asked for a refund, but strangely I haven't heard anything back. I'm getting ready to setup a dispute on PayPal.

I went back to my LFS to pick up another algae control option. I also walked out with a purple firefish. I've always wanted one, but I've never been smart enough to start with one.

Fingers crossed.

Purple fire fish skiddish but hardy. Acclimate well.

I decided to try my hand at the sand and super glue methodology to see if I make for a more stable structure longterm.

I had to wait a week to get the thin super glue in

and went with live sand, for reasons that I no longer recall.

I didn't do a great job of taking progress pictures. I was too focused on trying to quickly soak up on glue over spray.
