Is the mouth supposed to look like this on a magnifica? I just put the anemone in a few days ago and didn't know to check the mouth before i purchased it. It moved around and found a spot and latched itself in on the first day. I figured maybe it was a little stressed getting acclimated to the new environment and that's why it's mouth appears open. The outer part of the mouth is open but the inner part is puckered.

Welcome to R2R! Get some pics of your nem under white light. That way when the experts get in here you'll be better suited for answers. Did you medicate at all before introduction with cipro? I know carpets have shipping and acclimation issues.

No I didn't do any medicating. I drip acclimated for an hour. I picked it up at my local fish store.

Nems are weird creatures. Until you get accustomed to them there will most likely be things that get you worried. Any look of melting (not just deflating) or not opening for an extended period of time. Or mouth gaping and expelling itself (they do poop also) are times to get concerned. As with all nems they prefer an established tank, stable parameters and with carpets they like a TON of light.

May want to look into getting yourself some cipro just incase there is infection. Doesn't cost much and good to have on hand for anemone.

I turned my light intensity down to 50% at 100% and 75% it would close up like at my moon light setting. I figure the poop is the black string like substance around it's mouth

How do i give it cipro. Like squeeze it in a turkey baster above it?

No, it would be dissolved into a hospital tank. You can search these forums for the method. What lights are you using? While acclimation to any light is needed for corals and anemone, 99.9999% of reefers don't have anywhere near too much lighting for a carpet nem.

Those should be sufficient. Your nem is probably just getting accustomed to the new surroundings. Like I said every nem or coral will need to go through acclimation to the tank and lighting. Keep the lights at a lower setting and ramp up slowly over the next few weeks. Others that are more experienced will eventually chime in. I don't think you have anything to worry about though.
