Got a new BTA today, 20 min temp, and 1 1/2 hour drip acclimation. My other nem is doing perfect, all my parameters are untraceable. The new nem looks like he's melting, hasn't attached to anything and looks like all around death, give it time or throw it out?

Does it have pieces actually falling off, actually deteriorating? Any pics? If it’s falling apart I’d ditch it. If it just looks bad maybe it’s just adjusting/doing a water change...?

A picture would help. Also list the parameters and testing media brand.

Agreed, pics would help. But I wouldn't count him out just yet. I (stupidly) bought an extremely bleached nem that drifted around upside down in my tank for 2 weeks. He is now a good 12" across when fully extended, and definitely the star of the tank. For such delicate creatures they can be surprisingly tough.

They are tough. I crashed my tank twice, and my BTA are the only ones that survived.

Here's a picture of the nem. Ammonia: 0, Nitrite: 0, Nitrates: 0, Calc: 430, Mag: 1300, Alk: 10.5. Won't attach to anything, foot is starting to disintegrate.

Is the nem at the top or bottom of the tank? Lighting may be too intense?

Both are on top, the other one loves it, I imagine if it was to bright it would move. It's not even grabbing the rock.

It looks bad. Do the smell test and isolate it in a HT if you want to give it a chance.

LOL... the smell test has 100% accuracy.

But seriously, if you haven't thrown it in toilet yet, do it now. A smelly nem is a dead nem.

Question - mine passes the smell test no problem, but is still looking pretty reduced in size and health. I have moved it to a Hospital tank, but need to know how to treat - what can I do for nems besides add some trace elements and hope?

See the sticky at the top of the forum for some treatments
