Do you have to have a anemone to have clown fish if so how do you care for them? I'm a first time salty

No you don't need an anemone to keep clowns at all.

You definitely do not need an anemone for clowns :) In fact, clowns often do nothing for an anemone at all, they just hangout in the tentacles, loving life. However, anemones can be a fun addition to any reef tank :)

Agree with above. If you do decide on an anemone make sure to research them first.

If you have clownfish, read up and once you're ready, definitely get an anemone. The interaction between the clownfish and anemone is what got me into reefkeeping.

I dont think I would keep clowns without one now days. Something would be missing to me.
