Hey guys, sorry for a random one. My first anemone. Anything that looks out of place or something that I should worry about? Also what type of BTA is this? The tentacles look very skinny.

Looks like a healthy Sherman or rose bta , it is semi bleached but can recover fine if parameters are good

Oh that's concerning. A lot of them looked like this in my LFS, attaching a picture from their aquarium. That's why I thought it might be a different species. Is there anything I can do to help it recover?

Please share the lighting specifics.
I'm using 2x Maxspect MJ L290 lights, running at 35%. I do not know the spectrum, just used their soft + LPS coral setting. Attaching the PAR measurements. The anemone is currently in the circled area.

I would slowly increase the intensity of the fixture.

To what PAR readings? I was told to target 120 for the sand bed and 200-220 top for non SPS tank. Also I initially placed the anemone in the middle of the rock (~180 PAR) and it walked to the current location and stayed there for ~1 week now.

The Anemone is not going to stay in a place that may appear to have the ideal par values, as you already know.
Right now the Anemone is in a lower par area per the image and par level illustration provided.
You're running the fixture at 35% I would slowly start ramping up the intensity and worry about par once the Anemone settles down.
It's common for BTA to not display bubble tips and instead show long tapering tentacles. The Anemone looks other wise healthy.

🙂

Sorry for a stupid question, but I do not understand the motivation for increasing the fixture power. Is the goal to raise the overall PAR across the whole tank, meaning my current values are generally too low? Or is it to help the anemone recover?

To provide adequate par for where ever the anemone wanders off to. The anemone will find it's spot.

Slowly increasing the intensity is up to you. You seem satisfied with the program. If the anemone appears healthy don't mess with it.

The anemone is a Entacmaea Quadricolor strain. Fairly hearty in newer tanks. It will probably split soon.

🙂

Okay quick update here. The anemone is still alive, it seems like it got browner, however, the tentacles got stringier and shorter. Generally, it looks smaller than when I got it. Looks rather odd, although, it's eating mysis shrimp. Any expert opinions?

Looking like a red bta

Bta anemones go like string with too much flow In the place it has settled. If it's not happy it will move to a better place . Bubble tip when buying can be full of grate looking bubble tips then bring it home and it never bubbles up again just what happens. Anemones don't like change in there environment. They can go in the huff just because you do a water change just how they are . The thing with anemones is you want them to do one thing and they will do the opposite. Good mature tanks = Good water quality and stable condition they don't mind higher nitrate.
