Hi people!

Just added 2 new fish. A blueface and an emporor.

The emporor is about 5 or 6 inches, and still in full juvinille colours. The blueface is about half the size and already a good bit through the change to adult colours.

Anyone know why? Is it an age thing regardless of size? Is it likely to affect adult size?

Could be stress if you just added them. How long have they been in the tank? Do you have any pictures of the fish we can check out?

Nope. They're exactly as they looked in the shop. They've been in 2 weeks and are happy, eating, active. I'll have a go for some pics later.

It's not camo/stress/aggression colours. It's juvi to adult colours I'm asking about. Just wondering why the blue face is changing at a smaller size to the emporor, when the blueface should ultimately be a bigger fish.

Before anyone mentions the corals, I know the risks. This tank is 200g 6 ft. Currently mixed with a low coral stock, but will gradually become a softies/Angel dominated system with a high fish stock and low maintenence but high tech system. All the kit to keep sps, but purely soft corals with a focus on the fish. If they eat a coral the coral will go, until it's tightly packed with likely softies and a few nems. Currently a blue face and an emporor, with a goldflake, an undecided upon dwarf Angel, and a majestic still to stock. So far so good!

They change at different times. I’ve seen emperors change at different sizes but definitely seen some be pretty large before they fully transitioned. I think blue faces usually change earlier/smaller. Nice looking fish.
