That skimmer is overkill in my opinion. Just run an air stone and change your filter floss regularly.

So i'm going to turn the entire 2nd chamber into a refugium, and I wanted some feedback on what light to use [Can add velcro or magnets to the back to attach it, preferably LED] that is cost effective (enough) and what/how to keep the chaeto/other macroalgae from entering the return pump chamber?

Added my Slim Skim skimmer to the first compartment tonight [really tight fit, hopefully it works fine]

For a 16" by 8" refugium [the entire second chamber] what lights would be best and most economical? I was looking on ebay/amazon for cheap LED grow lights and found a few but i'm not sure if they are way overkill for a chaeto refugium or not. I am thinking of putting a maxijet 600 in the bottom right portion of chamber 2 to keep water circulating

Those pictures were with everything just thrown in there, I've since done two different re-scapings and added sand. I changed the scape to move the Toadstool to the back corner so it didn't obstruct half of the tanks view when it grows bigger.

Updates on my tank...

Used my BRS dual reactor to make a Chaeto reactor. With a MJ1200 attached the pump whines very loudly... Had to put a Maxijet 600 on it. I ordered a Maxijet 900 on Amazon, should have it today.

Only had BRS reactor tubing handy, it's too stiff to really be bent well into the overflow section of my biocube, but it works for now.

Got myself a Jebao 4 head doser, and my Triton [other methods] supplements. Going to calibrate the doser tonight and get things running for dosing the Triton. I ordered a Hanna Alkalinity checker which should be here Monday. Also set up my auto top off [was using a aqualifter, but it couldn't handle the height to keep water level consistent even when constantly on]

- I have been using the Hydrofill auto top off [~$65 at BRS] and it has worked with no issues so far, I would recommend it for an affordable ATO

I bought a used Reef Angel unit off of the forums and got it all set up/mounted into the stand. Everything here but the power brick is velcro'd on to the wood. I can't get the Wifi of the reefangel to allow me to connect from outside of my network [likely because I can't figure out port forwarding]

This Hydor SlimSkim skimmer is a pain in the @55... It will pull no nothing, then all of a sudden it's completely full with clear saltwater... Im hoping that my reactor will take off so I can return this skimmer as I don't feel like it's doing anything beneficial for my tank aside from aeration...

It also almost completely blocks the first compartment, raising the water level in the main tank almost to the first emergency overflow grooves on the back wall. With a MJ1200 as a return pump, the water level is high and the noise coming from the first to the second chamber is VERY loud... A slower flow rate [MJ600] eliminates any noise, but I am concerned that it won't be enough flow through the equipment at MJ600 rates.

This is showing the water level in the tank with a MJ1200 as a return pump

I also picked up a pH probe for the Reef Angel and last night I was getting a steady 7.65 with the reactor running... I'm guessing that the reactor is not working very well [at least not as a pH buffer]

Wasn't happy with the old stand, and I'm going to drill a drain and put return on the biocube. So built a new stand, just finished with the polyurethane. Going to be drilling and moving everything over this week

My hammer also split all of its heads, trumpet is growing great and frogspawn looks like it might be splitting

I also added a lawnmower blenny which hasn't touched any of the algae that's growing (I think it's bropsis).

As soon as the sump is set up I'll be going with the Triton system

Got a new coral, and re aquascaped after adding a sump. I guess my tank isn't an all in one anymore =O

Also treated with flucanazole for the bryopsis in the tank. Picked most of it off manually while moving rocks around.

I put a taotronics led grow light on the fuge. This is 13 days of growth... It's now so thick and heavy that it doesn't spin anymore. I turn it a couple of times every night. Light on 24/7 on fuge.

I'm also re aquascaped with some dry rock. Going to move my life rock to the sump and replace with this BRS reef saver rock

Added my dry rock aquascape, the display is so bright with the white rock...

Sent the old rock to the sump to work as my biological filtration while the white rock gains some bacteria.

Added an h380 and neatened up my cords. I was dosing 2ml/day of Triton additives in the morning (30mins between solutions) but my all was rising too rapidly. Backed off the doser to 1ml/day.

Now I'm really wanting to find/build an ATO that's smaller and clear so that I can see into the sump (dog food container blocks the view)

Also thinking of using 2liter bottles or something similar to hold the Triton core7 so that I can see the depletion (to second check my dosing pumps)

The taotronics lamp works great, but I wanted the best with the h380... It cost more than my main display lights!
