Another satisfied Sand Bed UV Sweeper customer

So I have dinos in my 5 month old Red Sea Max Nano Peninsula. I let the N&P bottom out to 0. I started doing the usual to get rid of them. No real progress. I found the Sand Bed UV Sweeper thread, and decided it might help. This is before the 1st treatment;

So the rake arrived, nice package and good quality. It's a bit tight to maneuver in my tank because I don't have a lot of room between the rock and glass, but it works. I did order the foot switch from Amazon, and glad I did, although there is an inline switch on the cord, also. I used it the next day, and the lamp died. Water got in and that was that. I emailed @Moe K and he said that's the 1st complaint he's had about the lamp. He said he would send another.

Not more than a an hour later I got the order conformation email. Four days later my new lamp was in my mailbox! Thank you Moe, that was great customer service!

So today is the fouth treatment, with a five day gap between first two and second two;

I'm a happy camper! Great tool, great service. I'll keep updating!

Also, I'm opted for Microbactor Clean as the bottled bac. My wife is VERY tolerant of me, but I don't like to push the boundaries too far, and I read the Microbe Lift is pretty strong, odor wise.

It seems as if this device is definitely on the scoreboard, in terms of a few good reviews. Time will tell if this is "Shark Tank" worthy. (A pun there!) :)

11 days and no more visible spots on the sand. There were 2 places, near the back on either side, that I couldn't get directly with the light. Today was the first day they were gone. I plan on treating for the next couple weeks.

The report of dinos disappearing in spots you are not able to reach is inline with other reviews. Maybe dinos are able to send some kind of signal to the other that the environment is to harsh or just the shift to more beneficial organisms begin to dominate more easily. I am not sure why it happens but it is great that it does.

I was going to look into it more, but seeing how i have acrylic tank, i would rather not waste time if i cant use it. Thanks

I believe the UV breaks down the acrylic.

Finally someone else is touting microbe lift as the most effective bacteria against dinos (from the link) besides myself! Yes it smells horrible but it really doesn't linger if you do it when your SO isn't home. I've used it multiple times with great results.

chiming on on this thread as I just started the UV sand sweep with great results this far. I was at my wits end and about to remove all my sand but found this device just in time. I am on day 3 and I see a significant reduction with my sandbed dinos. I wished I had snapped photos before and after to show the evidence. I'd say a 75% reduction in LCA dinos after 3 treatments. Like the OP, I decided not to go with microlift due to smell and am using a combo of microbacter 7 and dr tims ecobalance as I had those on hand.

there are spots I definitely can't reach and I notice the dinos come back harder in those areas. Hoping to experience these dinos getting the "signal" and giving up, but that hasn't been the case so far. It's still early and the results this far are very promising. One tip I did was to tweak my rockscape to create sand gaps where the sweep can fit in easily. I love how I can go over a patch of dinos with the sweep and minutes later I do see them visibly thin out.

my nitrates are at 20 and my phosphates are .3 (hard to fathom dinos would thrive in these conditions, but these LCA dinos are the worst of the worst and have proven they can thrive in high nutrient systems) so I assume using the sand sweep would take longer than expected, but after 3 days, the results have been fabulous. I am hoping in a couple of days, I won't see any.

Kudos to you Moe. ingenious device that can help a lot of reefers dealing with IMO the peskiest dinos out there.

I kind of gently moved the matted sand over from the 2 spots I can't reach a couple inches. I just did this once, after most of the rest of the sand was visually clear, and tried not to disturb too much.

It helped, and those spots cleared up a lot. There is still some very faint brown at high noon, but getting better. I just kind of tilt the rake so it shines on the spots and hold it there for like a minute. These spots are up against the back wall and really hard to hit. The tank is a nano, so not a lot of room to maneuver. But this seems to work.

I keep treating every day, only takes a few minutes. In a couple weeks it'll be about a month. I'll look under my cheep microscope to see whats going on.

I had Large Cell Amphidinium that the sweeper was very effective against. I treated for 10 or so seconds all around. I have a couple spots where I can't get the light very close, rocks in the way, so I left it there for a minute or so.

If your dino's are on the rocks, I'm not sure how well the sweeper will work. But on sand dino's, it's faboo!

It will kill procentrum dinos. Those should mostly be on the sand. Yep, 5-10 seconds on each spot, do that for a week or so. After 3-4 days you will see it going away.

IM SO EXCITED!! LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING THE IMPROVEMENTS! Have you noticed it to affect corals? I have a lot of corals on the sand bed with Dino’s around it and am scared to bring the UV near it.

Procentrum is a bit toxic to corals. Once I rid my tank of them, corals have been recovering well.

Sorry I meant the uv. Did you ever have it come close to coral and see ill effects? I have a lot of Dino’s in hard to reach spots right next to coral so unsure if I should just skip those areas for now until I get majority of the bulk down first
