Hi guys,
My tank has been up and running just over 2 years. Its a 65 gallon SPS reef. Money was very tight when I set it up. I purchased half dead frags and small frags to fill it. I purchased a Reef Breeders 32 inch Photon for light and it has grown my corals extremely well. Highest I have been able to run it is 40% max for 4 hours(peak) a day. Plus the ramp up and down. Its suspended 11" above my tank. I keep 1/2 covers over the top all the time. I get great color and growth.
Since my corals have gotten larger, I decide to purchase a AI Prime for each rear corner as I have a built in center overflow. Both corners where about 150ish PAR at max!
I purchased the first prime about 3-4 weeks ago and put it in the right rear corner. All I can say is................WOW!!!!! This little lights is AWESOME!!!! After about 3 weeks of running it I had to up my doser(buffer) 11 mls a day!!!
I was a ReefBreeders diehard, but after this little AI venture I am wondering if I could get even better growth and color going all AI!!!! Like Hydra 26HD's!!!
Comparisons: The AI Prime is a much whiter crisper white then the reefbreeders. I only run it at 25 watts(half its output) and you can barely look at it. They use a more cool white then the reefbreeders. They use a dull white light claiming the whiter is not needed.
Also, the Reefbreeders have no greens like the AI. The reefbreeders does have reds as do the AI's.
Just want to get some opinions, if anyone has gotten accelerated growth when switching to the AI's. And it may not be the different spectrum I realize, just more light in shaded areas.
I will say this, the better quality leds do seem to put out a ton more light. Its literally a night and day difference!!
I am gonna order another one next week for the other side. Just wondering if I should eventually move the Reefbreeders to my smaller 50 gallon holding tank, and go all AI!!!
The AI's look much closer to metal halides in my opinion!

Heres a few crummy cell phone pics. I am not a good picture taker, and these do not show the color. But the growth with the reefbreeders has been excellent. Now I will have 2 back corners with the AI Primes that I can use for space!!!

I have a cannon Rebel. I think I need to sit down and learn to use the white balance on it!!!

The brownish look corals to the far right is Actually a pinkish with green corallites. And its 9 inches now from base to the tip on the right side. Almost hitting the glass.(just the right side of tank). The hawkins in the front center is a cool purple blue color!!
My pocillopora spawned in the tank. I have babies everwhere. They are covering one of my Tunze waveboxes. I have two side by side. My wife wont let me clean it off either!!!! Anyone need any pocillopora frags??
