Hey all! I’m hoping somebody can help me, cause I frankly don’t know what caused my algae issue.

About 3 weeks ago I had this algae covering my sand, almost overnight. It’s brown, almost like a powder film; it easily comes off with a turkey baster or when I did a water change and siphon sections of my sand. It’s getting to be an issue on some of my coral, settling in the skeleton edges and causing them to retract, mainly my stuff on the sand bed. Today I noticed it on my rocks, and still flows off with a turkey baster.

My tanks a 75 gallon display, no sump. A little over a year old. Parameters are below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Nitrate-22
Phosphate-0.24
Calcium-1450
Mag-1480

Phosphate is a little high. It’s probably diatoms. Bring your phosphates down a little and they may subside (I shoot for 0.08-0.12 for my PO4).
I’m currently running GFO, was at .34 last week, hoping to bring it under .1, not too low though
