Any laptop gurus?

I'm in the market for a new laptop as mine is getting old. I primarily use it for photos and video/photo editing. I use photoshop for creating some rather large panoramics that are up to 2gb each so I need something with the processing and ram that can handle that. I also use a GoPro and would like to start using the 4K capability of it. Hard drive space isn't that much of a concern as I have an external 4Tb that I use. I found this one on Amazon and was wondering if anyone knew much about it or had other recommendations. I've always used a Gateway laptop and had really good luck with those and will never buy an HP again. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them.

is budget an issue? i7 is good, I however would prefer the xxxHQ instead of the xxxU cpu, they are quad core with dual thread for each core. Also get 16GB of RAM at least for what you are doing (32 would be my choice)...I like the Dell better than the gateway but I guess that is your choice of vendor. The 4K screen is good but I think an external display will go far for the budget. Full HD screens are very affordable nowadays

I love my hp. I have the elitebook 8560w. Upgraded ram and hard drive. 2tb HDD and 16 gigs of ram with I believe the i7

I can find them pretty cheaply around here at pawn shops...like the 175$ range...which is insane for how much they really are

I was actually looking at that Dell before I stumbled on the Toshiba. Might have to reconsider that one.

ya skip HP crap. Bought 2 for kids and both died within same month 1.5years later.
2 dells first 1 still runs 12 years later only fan and screen changed
The other 1 is main laptop

I agree with others cram in the memory. 16gb+ but push it if you can afford it.
I work for a computer service company and have started seeing more engineers carrying around Lenova.
Lenova is worth a peek to compare against others you may be thinking of buying.

I would look at Mac for what you are doing. I have alway been a PC person, and I have 2 pc and a laptop (IBM Think Pad) in my office. The Think Pad is 6 years old and works well but I am using it for one thing only. The PC I can gut when I need to upgrade. I am looking at a Mac Book pro to do my work out of the office.
The reason for suggestion a Mac will out last a Laptop with performance and the software that you are using is more suited for a Mac book, Mac book air and depending on you budget Mac book pro.

I have an ASUS ROG that has been used hard for 7 years and is starting to show it's age a little. It has been a great computer though. I'm thinking about getting a new Dell XPS. It's a little less expensive and gets great reviews

So how the other thing I have to consider is my wife will be using this laptop as well. We decided it was rediculous to each have our own because we are never on them at the same time. She likes the touchscreen but is always like "get whatever one is the best option".

My wife has a touch screen laptop, at first she didn't care for it but the laptop came with it. Now I see her using the touch screen to scroll all the time.

Still searching around, anyone know anything about using a stylus with a 2-in-1 laptop? I see very few of them come with one included and if it doesn't include one, they don't specify whether or not you can use one with it. I know that some like the Microsoft Surface sense pressure differences and such, I'm just looking to use one instead of using my finger. It doesn't need to do all of the fancy bells and whistles that some do. I figured it would make doing small touchups in Photoshop a lot easier.

The resistive touch screen type laptops are not popular..Not sure they ever made one. Most touch screen devices nowadays are capacitive type.... Meaning you use the fingers. They have "stylus" for capacitive touch screen too...Like $1 each

Hard to do multi-touch with resistive touch screen and that is why newer devices do not use resistive touch screen any more....

That's what I was gathering from my research, just couldn't tell if a screen was resistive or capacitive. What I was thinking was pretty much any 2-in-1 nowadays that supports multi-touch would then be a capacitive touch screen and I could get any capacitive touch stylus to work with it.

I just feel like the 2 in 1 laptops are like tablets.... Toys. They don't build them with bigger screen and the pivots for the screens...Don't know how long that lasts.....

That's what I initially thought as well but my wife likes them and I will be sharing this one with her as well. I've been reading a lot about them and the newer ones at least seem to hold up very well. I also played around with a few in the stores and they feel pretty solid.

If you already set your mind on that, the only advice I can give you is "Buy it from a place/store that you can return after you try it on for a while....costco" :-)

Alienware fan myself. Yes I know they are dell now, dell couldn't compete with them with there XPS so they bought out alienware lol! I've heard great things about MSI as well, both are rather pricey though
