We have had this chameleon for 2.5-3 years. He has always been healthy. A few days ago I noticed this blister on his head. The only thing I have changed is his uv bulb, about 3 weeks ago. It is a lower wattage than the old bulb. The only thing I can think of is a burn from the new bulb.

Any one know what it may be?
Or how to treat him?

I’ve never had chameleons but I had a bearded dragon for 5 years. Could it be shedding? I think chameleons are supposed to stay in a humid environment also...maybe the enclosure is too dry?

He looks okay for now. Maybe mist him more than usual and feed some wax worms for a few days and see if the condition gets better. Other than that just looks like a blemish. Probably self inflicted on accident.

He does shed, but when that happens the skin turns white. This is a fluid filled blister. And you are correct, they need heat and humidity. We now live in southern GA (about 5 miles from FL) so he gets both lol

Thanks! I found photos of the same condition, but no one had answers as to what it was. It appeared overnight and is a fluid filled blister.

Is the screen getting hot enough to burn ?

Is the substrate drying out between misting? If always damp they can get weird bacterial and fungal diseases. The lower wattage lamp may not be doing the same job as the higher wattage one in this respect. Its hard to tell the difference between a granuloma or blister but both usually require veterinary care. A burn will need antibiotics and possibly iodine. A granuloma may require antifungals.

That is a very odd blister. It doesn’t look quit like a burn but I suppose it could be. If it were me I would watch it closely and if it got bigger I would take it to a vet to get it inspected. Good looking chameleon other than that spot!
