I have 425xl sump. Blocked part of skimmer area off 12” by 10”. I can’t fit a bucket in there to block off spill light from Light to prevent algae growth on skimmer etc. what have you guys used

Don't have your sump but same issue. I bought the tunze refugium light cause of the light spill issue with a hanging light.
Now I don't have to worry about my skimmer cause it's not even pointing that way

Chaeto growing so much , pulling too much nutrients my nitrate and phosphate bottomed out at 0. Had a little Dino issue

Using one of the outlets on your return , plumb into the bucket back into sump area. Using items from your local hardware store

So like a second mini sump. Okay. I’ve seen this for live rock too

For the overflow of my refugium I sandwiched black silicon between two pieces of glass. The glass they sell at hardware stores is super thin so this has the added effect of making it strong enough to do the job.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, as I'm new. How can you tell if the plastic is aquarium safe?
I'm not entirely sure, but any type of acrylic or plexiglass is reef safe. PVC seems to be reef safe. I'd take a look at some of your plastic on your equipment and decide.
