Going to put it off for today. I think I want to install another shut off valve on the UV intake pipe and keep the original return pipe and add a shutoff to that so I can turn off the UV and turn on just the return water in case of a emergency.

Is the PVC pipe that fits into it 3/4 pvc or 1 inch? Thanks!!
It's a 2 inch to 1 inch reducing coupling. So you will need two 2 inch pvc nipples to connect to the UV then 1 inch pvc for the return. If you have 3/4 inch return piping, you will need 1" to 3/4" reducing couplers or bushings.
