Anyone here have bonsai?

I'm curious to know what tree is best for living indoors (or half a year in, half out), or a tree that can hibernate outside through the winter.

Most importantly though, if you have bonsai, post pics!

Willow leaf ficus, fukien tea trees do well indoors. Was really into bonsai till I found this hobby, lol. Unfortunately I lost most of my trees this winter in one cold snap but a few made it. I had shimpaku junipers, all 3 I had died this year. Also had red and black jap. Pines that didn't make it as well as an awesome bald cypress that didn't make it but my willow leaf ficus and funkien tea made it (both great growers). Hope this helps, I will have to try and dig up some pics and post them.

I've always wanted to get into bonsai. Maybe I'll try now that I have a nice screened in pool.

Brazilian Raintree bonsai are one of my favorites and I think they are pretty adaptable to indoor living...

this one is not mine just a pic I found online...Also I really enjoy the different kinds of flowering bonsai but I'm not sure of the indoor/outdoor suitablility right off hand

+1 on the Brazilian raintrees, just watch out for the thorns! Lol

My grandfather kept bonsai, and I'm thinking of getting into it. They require a lot of effort (or so I understand), but I remember watching my Granddad sit there for hours, pruning and taking care of them, and he seemed very happy and at peace. I guess they helped him relax and meditate on the stresses of everyday life, and how insignificant they really were. I think he kept mostly pine bonsai, which says a lot about his skill level, because pine bonsai are apparently one of the "classic" bonsai species, but also one of the hardest to take care of properly.

I have a ficus for indoors in winter and outside spring through fall, working on a japanese maple. I never had any luck with the fukien tea, they need lot's of light and humidity.

what all goes in to keeping a bonsai tree? they look super nice would love to try to keep one!!

Larger public libraries often have older books on this, and the art has essentially remained the same, so it should be a good resource. I believe they'll be in the gardening section, although you may have to ask.
