I am not doubting the health of jawfish from KPA as I have always gotten very healthy fish from them. My question is more if jawfish from them do well longterm in reef temperatures? I do keep my reef a bit cooler than most, 77°- 78 but I know ideally their target temps are 72-78. I could possibly turn my temperature down to 76° which might be better. Please share your personal experiences with these fish.

Yellow head jawfish actually come from tropical waters and can be kept at normal reef tank temperatures. Blue spotted jawfish, however, need cooler water and preferably should be kept in the high 60s.

I have bought several yellow headed jawfish from KP Aquatics. I really like the way they ship them inside of PVC pipes with netting on the ends. Once you get them acclimated to the new tank they are very hardy, but it can be a challenge to get them to create a burrow if there are competing fish such as gobies present. If they don't create a burrow they will perish and they are very good escape artists. My tank typically runs 78-80 F and there are no problems with them at those temperatures.

I went ahead and ordered them. I have a 20g observation/QT that has been up a year with sand, rock and macroalgae for them to acclimate in before I move them to the display. I do have a ywg that might be a problem so may try to catch him first before I move the jawfish pair.

I have a blue spotted jaw fish and I keep his temperature at 77-78. I tried dropping my temperature down to 76-77 and my deresa that I had for 2 and half years didn’t not like that cold.
