After months of planning and weeks of building my gear cabinet is done. I am pretty proud of it.

Took my time planning it and now all of my gear is out from under the tank. I work in IT so love all the geeky stuff. I can now control everything on my tank by phone or pc.

To help with consistent network connection I decided against WIFI and have CAT6 connection from my home router to a switch in the cabinet that Apex and GHL run off of. It will help with my work traveling to know I can check on things. Just need a Trident now

Only one thing left to install is the dosing containers being made by Marc Levenson and his world famous acrylic work.

Thanks to my wonderful wife for helping with this could not do it without her....

I have build thread that I will be updating in the new week or so with all of the details cabinet build

Dumb question: what materials did you use to build the cabinet? I’d love to try something like this.

The cabinet is from IKEA then I built the mounting wall. There is a smaller one on top and larger cabinet on bottom. Total cost for both with glass door was around $160. I have listed the link as well pictures of making the mounting wall. Let me know if you have more questions

What type of wood and paint did you use? Does it need to be water/humidity resistant?

It was a piece of laminated hardwood that was 2x2 so only had to cut a small piece to fit inside the cabinet. I went with a little nicer piece so the paining would lay day better. I used Krylon Fusion all in one spray paint. There is no need for it to be water proof since it is outside and away from the tank. The cabinet on the outside is a laminate and will wipe down easy so any water that does get on it cleans up should not create any issues. Here the paint I used.
