so i am going to be buying the apex dos for my apex EL controller.

i currently have the BRS jugs with alk/cal that i manually dose with.

is there any advantage to buying the apex DDR vs just throwing the airline into the jugs?

The one nice thing about the DDr is that it comes with optical sensors to let you know when your fluid is low. With that being said I opted to turn the BRS mixing jugs into my dosing containers.

much cheaper than the 200 for the ddr

In my case at least, the optical sensors would constantly fail (even with cleaning). I had to send the unit in twice for repair to have the main board replaced also. I ended up ripping out the sensors and am now just using it as an expensive (nice looking I will admit) acrylic dosing container.

I had bought a used DOS/DDR kit and wound up passing on the DDR to another reefer. It definitely looked nicer but It was bulkier than Id hoped and didnt fit well under my stand. The optical sensors are a nice touch but not enough to sacrifice space for me.

Looks and sensors are the main attraction. While not so much looks (what, you don't like my long locks of golden hair? :D ) I bought the Apex units for the sensors. I think they add a nice touch. Needed though - no. I have three 800ML Glass Voss bottles with attachments to use when I want to dose something that may damage the Apex unit/sensors. Like @Crabs Mcjones noted - if you don't need the sensors or going to dose something say like NoPox then the container it comes in, or some other DIY like the Voss glass bottles makes sense and saves you money.

So was about to buy a DDR and noticed all the reviews on it. Wow was I shocked to see almost all bad reviews. Wanted to setup two part but may just do as this person has done. Just need the fittings for my jugs.

I’m using the Red Sea bottles for my dosing containers. I had used a amazon third party until Red Sea came out with their new caps
Since I use ALK more than everything else that’s in front so it’s easy for me to shake and check. I don’t have room for much more

Those new caps are pretty slick on their part. I must say. I just picked up a new bottle of NoPox and noticed the bottle was different. Black in color and the dosing connector on the top. Although they do not including the tubing they also did not increase the price. Simple instructions with inside and outside tubing diameters and how much to tighten without high evaporation.

Such a simple thing like that to stand out among the crowd. At least in my opinion.

For what it is worth I have the Apex containers although not in use at the moment. More than likely will be used once my tank is mature enough to dose 2 part. It is clean and the sensors are nice. Having said that they really are limited on acrylic safe content which is why I also went with the Voss bottle DIY container for such things.

Any pics of this setup. I know on amazon you can buy a 3 chamber box for like $55 most reviews on it are good each chamber holds 1.5L

Was thinking about going that method for my BRS solutions.

The tubing for inside the bottle is included you cut off the tip of the top take the tube and add it to the inside of the cap and away you go. You add your own tubing from the doser to the bottle

That’s the one I had before the square one withe orange caps. I liked those. But I had very little space so I like the Red Sea bottle, 500 Liters

I can't speak for their other products but having just received a new bottle of NoPox the tubing is not included. Not to sound like I am arguing, I apologise if so, but I was looking for the tubing but couldn't find it. Then I saw the instruction booklet and it said it there. Thought maybe I dropped it or misplaced it like I usually do with some things.

In any case it is still a great idea they did in my opinion.

Smart on Red Seas part. However at 250ml seems like your changing them all the time say on a 180G tank?

I hate the fact that the DOS only has two and not three heads. Have my DOS setup for auto water changes right now was thinking about adding a second one but the. i am left with having to dose manual for one of them I assume Mag.

That would mean I have purchased 3 DOS total. Bit pricey because they did two heads instead of 3. Dont get me wrong my DOS setup for water changes has been flawless its a great product.

Simplicity container is killer. Spot for float switches and caps without the tube attached for easy refill. The price is right too.

I ordered floats for mine today.
