I'm in the market for a controller and wanted to get thoughts on the Apex vs. the Aqua Controller III. My main goal is to be able to monitor my tank and be able to control its functions remotely, with added automation being seconday.

If possible, please include your thoughts and experience with setup, tech support, reliability, etc, etc. As much insight as possible would be greatly appreciated.

The forum is yours.....

Either will do exactly what you want.

But the question is raised, do you eventually plan to add a frag tank or another tank.
Benefits of the apex is that you can daisy chain multiple tanks and up to 2500 outlets. Its a really cool looking display too. I personally had the option of buying either and pretty much both are same in price and thought the apex was the best bet. Why buy and older product when you can have the new and IMO better product, the apex.

I was on the wait for APEX controller to come out and heard many bugs that people have with it. Hope Neptune work them all out.
I look at my friend's AC III. It works flawlessly (controller with his Iphone is big+ for me).

I'm not familiar with the Apex but I do have ACIII. I have just about everything most reefers could want on my tank and it works just fine. I'm guessing the display on the Apex has more information on it and the programming is easier. The programming on the AC III is not difficult, but can seem foreign at first. The programming is more logic based rather than picture based. Relies mostly on IFThen statements. I think the Apex has more features but understand them to be sure that you would utilize them. I know it would be hard to spend money on a dated product when the current product seems so sleek.

I have the APEX and control the system from my phone and check my probes too when im gone. Had it freeze twice total but only while im doing something with manual controls. Never with programing from the computer or while unattended. Froze on first setup and during a PH calibration otherwise runs flawless.
