I'm starting up a 20x20x20 rimless cube. When I place the tank on the stand it is obvious that the stand top isn't perfectly flat. Is there something I can put under the tank to compensate for the slight variance in the surface of the stand top?

There are many differant types of foam and rubbers you can use. back in the old days we used styrofoam now many use rubber matts.I had some old rubber matts in my garage I used. Here are a few you can ues.

You need to be careful what you put under it. is the tank glass or acrylic? how uneven is the top?

The tank is glass. It would probably take a feeler gage to measure the gap. I only noticed it b/c I had my eye at the level of the top.

Glass should have rigid foam like the purple stuff from the home depot, called foamular. I would also try to sand the top down as well. rubber mats do not evenly distribute weight as they can compress too much, depending on the type of rubber.
