What size tank and how much rock do you have? What is this system going to be (FOWLR, mixed reef, lps, softy, sps)? Pictures if possible.

I'd go with two pillars that reach at least 2/3 off the ground of the tank. Leave some space between them to give your tank some depth. I also find that tanks with more open sand bed look better than tanks with rock all over the sand.
