Aragonite sand question

Was wounding if adding this sand to my 2 year old reef would be ok and not start a cycle or anything guy at my local store said it would be just fine I could add as much as I want. I have a very fine layer of live sand on my tank bottom due to moving from a sm tank to a 75g

In my 75 gallons I like to use 80 lbs of sand. That gives me a good 2 inches all over. It takes me almost 2 hours to rinse it but it’s worth it.

I’ve never added new sand on top of old but I would think by doing so you might suffocate all the tiny creatures living in it, thus causing a slight ammonia rise. Maybe not, but just to make sure can you move the existing sand in one spot and put the new sand next to it ?

Do this test on a cell phone video please, and post it for us so I can use the quick video in pre rinse sand posts:

fill a tall clear glass or glass pitcher with water. Set in bright light, aim a cell phone set to video mode right at it so we can see clearly.


open the bag, remove one hand full and dump it in the cup while the video is running. The cup represents your tank, the water represents your tanks water after that sand is added unrinsed

Yeah, but I would rinse it until the water runs clear.
