Are anemones hardy?

Not an expert, however, there are different types.

If you are referring to bubble tip anemones, quick answer is they are not hardy. They are pretty particular about tank parameters.

That being said, if your tank has already been running a bit(at least 6 months I’ve read), and parameters are stable, they are not terribly difficult from what I gather.

Rock flower anemones are a bit smaller and generally considered a more hardy species. Not sure about carpet anemones as I have never researched them myself.

Hawaiian Red anemone has been through tank crashes, stays small. Came across it approximately 12 yrs ago and it’s still here. Very sticky. It’s also lavender with very little red.

I’ve just always seen they do not fair well in new aquariums right? Otherwise pretty hardy then?

If you don't want to treat an infected nem, buy one from someone near you who gets splits. Aquacultured btas are pretty tough. Wild ones may need a qt and cirpo treatment.

You can buy aquacultured online. It may still get sick in the bag.

They hate changes period.
That’s usually the reason they fair poorly in new systems which tend to have high flux.
Otherwise, in a mature tank….bulletproof.

Bubble tips would be an easy start, stable conditions is always key woth anything in the tank, corals and fish. So as said above its not so much about time its about stability. My new tank is 6 months old and have had 1 annenome at 4 months old and now I have 5. They just split. Be careful as they will kill anything in its path.

I would say no! Especially not in a new tank. It’s best to wait at least 6+ months. And make sure you cover your powerhead I learned the hard way.

Oh yes, I had rainbow bta’s years back. Kept splitting, they were very healthy. I gave them away. They seemed very easy.In that system was a hang on all in one filter/ skimmer I didn’t think it worked all that good but everything was doing fantastic. LPS, clams, Rhyzos.

Yeah your tank needs to be relatively stable, wait several months till the uglies pass and it will prob be in good condition for a Nem

When coraline becomes more of a pain than algae is about the right time to add an anemone.

My tank is 2 years, so with the advice, I think I’ll look into one.
