So guys/gals I need a little help. I've had a fighting conch for several months, and have recently added a second conch roughly six weeks ago. Since then every other week they've made some sort of.. well.. sack. I can only assume it's eggs of some sort as they're always together when this happens. But then over then next few days it slowly just erodes. I don't know if it just falls apart because of the power heads stirring the water, or if the other fish are eating it.

Can anyone say for sure what this is?

That "sack" they are making is an egg casing and the other fish are probably eating it to some extent but it's probably most likely being consumed by CUC members. My hermits love snail eggs and will follow some snails around getting whatever they drop.

That's kinda what I thought. Is there a way I can protect them until they hatch? Maybe get one of those hang on breeder enclosures?

Perhaps, I would research snail aquaculture and focus on saltwater specific methods. Some snails, like nerites, require a salinity change for the eggs to hatch but I don't believe that would be the case for a conch snail.
