Ato failed and dumped rodi in tank for about 7 hrs in 100gallon tank salinity is now at 1.18-1.20 cant find glasses lol. i panicked and put about half a cup of salt in sump before i thought about it. What should I do. Have large long tentacle several duncans and few other corals. Did putting that little amount of salt in 100g tank with 40 gallon sump hurt anything. Bad part is im going out of town for 3 days tomorrow for work.

What's the salinity now? Better to make a high salinity batch of water and do a water change. Don't increase by more than .2 in 24 hours.

Oof, did you figure out why the ATO failed? You can get it up to 1.022 to 1.023 by the time you leave.

If there is no more risk of overflow I'd just let it evaporate off naturally. 1.020 is not that bad.

You need an ATO like a Tunze that shuts off automatically after a few minutes, or a failsafe shut off float or something. Lots of options out there.

That cup of salt you added probably didn't do much damage as long as you didn't dump on the corals. I wouldn't continue down that road though.

I’m going to second and invest in an ato likes tunze one. I have never had issues with mine.

And by "risk of overflow" I mean the sump when you shut the return off for feeding or if the power goes out.
