I am working on designing a new ATO & WC design for a new tank I am establishing. I am interested in getting feedback from those more experienced on anything I may have forgotten. The design includes ATO & WC for 3 tanks: a) DT, b) fish QT, c) coral/invert QT. The equipment includes
1) 75GPD RO/DI Unit
2) 32 Gallon Brute Containers (1 for Mixing Salt & 1 for RO/DI)
3) RO/DI Float Switch Shut Off
4) Lots of Pumps
5) Lots of float switches for Apex
6) Tunze 3155 Osmolator
6) Apex Control for Everything (Breakout Box Module)
7) 5 Gallon Secondary Containers (Ensures pumps can't pump too much water if they malfunction)
8) 2x 20 Gal QT Tanks
9) 65 Gal DT w/ Proflex Model 4 Sump

The concept is to have the RO/DI fill the 32G container with fresh RO/DI water. Once a week, I will pump the water from the RO/DI to the salt water container and mix the salt. Once a day, water is pumped from each of the 32G containers to smaller 5G containers on a daily basis. The Tunze Osmolator will be responsible for keeping the DT at proper levels. I will monitor the salinity with the Apex and alarm - text and email - if it gets too low/high. On a daily basis, I will turn off the ATO systems and do a water change of 1 Gal for the DT, and 1.5 Gal for the QT. The water change will consist of pumping out 1.5 Gal based upon a timed setting. I will be drilling anti-siphon holes in each of the hoses from the DT sump and QTs just below the daily water change levels. Next, I will pump in the saltwater until the float switch triggers with an automatic timeout from the Apex controller. Finally, I will turn off all of the water change pumps and re-enable the ATO functionality of the Apex for the QTs and Tunze Osmolator for the DT.

Outstanding concerns: a) balancing pump power with amount of head (length of pipe and # of turns) necessary as part of the plumbing, b) number of float switches required to control the setup along with concerns about the Apex being able to handle the setup - think 1 Breakout Box can handle 6 float switches.
