Australia (or other destination) vacation.

I found out this Summer that I will be going back to school in July. I have debated taking a month in May or June and taking a trip to Australia or possibly someplace else with my wife. It has been on my bucket list to see the great barrier reef before things decline too much or it is gone completely. I'm wondering if anyone has taken this trip and has suggestions. Ideally I would like to snorkel for quite a few days if possible. It might be cool to see other wildlife (gang-gang cockatoos for instance) as well. I don't care much for the big cities so I wouldn't feel bad if we didn't get to them. I would also be open to consider other locations (Raja Ampat maybe?). I've done zero travel to the pacific outside of a trip to Hawaii. @Wrangy and hopefully some other locals can chime in too!

I have not been the Australia and it is a bucket list item myself but my wife and I love Bermuda. From the east coast it is not a long flight and it is a very clean and friendly place. I have been twice, once by sail boat and once by plane and I would say sailing there is worth the adventure. The island is surrounded by a reef and there is some good diving there.

Highly reccommend to come to Australia! I live in Melbourne and the GBR is also on my bucket list! There are some coral facilities up in Cairns too as you have Cairns Marine and also Sustainable Reefs that you could visit. Weather is great and beaches aee besutiful you cant really conplain about that!

That's great to hear. I need to investigate where to stay and where to go but I'm assuming Cairns would be the best city to start with? I tried to reach out to Cairns Marine on instagram but didn't get a reply.
