Hello all, i am looking to get into a calcium reactor right now since dosing cost too much now that I upgraded my tank. I was wondering what kind of stuff I need to buy to get it running? I am really new to calcium reactors and don’t know much. Also I want to hook it up to an alkatronic of that works if anyone knows? Thx

The testing stuff is wholly unrelated to calcium reactors.

I run a calcium reactor without any automatic testing. It helps but is not necessary.

For my calcium reactors, I run:

The reactor itself
CO2 tank
CO2 regulator
Ph monitor for the reactor
A doser for the effluence (if you want to integrate automatic testing)

That is all you need. It can get pretty $$ though, much more than dosing in the short term. Might take a while to break even. Why not mall dosing instead?

i recently upgraded to the red sea s1000 and its too bug for dosing I have to pay almost 200 every other month

Have pictures of your tank? what are you currently dosing? seems excessive unless its a full SPS build that has lots of colonies

I have an s1000 also, mixed reef, up for 6 months.

What are you dosing? Randy's two part recipe uses dirt cheap Soda Ash and Calcium Chloride. Sounds like you are buying store bought branded bottles of the same simple chemicals?

I'm pretty sure those automatic Alk testers require Soda Ash for making adjustments so a Calc Reactor wouldn't work. I could be mistaken.
