AWC or No WC

I was in a car accident, fractured a vertebrae and may need surgery. My wife has been helping with WCs but it’s been a lot of work. I have a 65g LPS dominant display and I’m trying to decide between AWC or no WC. Thoughts and what equipment would I need for each? I have an Apex controller if that helps.

I would vote for AWC before no water changes. I'm not cool enough for no water changes

AWC with the Apex works well. I do about 1.5 gallons every night for my 130 gallon system. Torches and hammers do fine.
The default AWC setup in Apex pumps in NSW and removes tank water at the same time. I programmed mine differently to 1st remove the tank water and then pump in the NSW.
Also programmed the feed buttons to trigger a manual water change as well.
I’m happy to share the programming steps if you decide to go this route.
Just remember to program Apex to shutoff ATO when AWC is happening

This is exactly what I’m thinking. Any programming steps would help. What equipment do you need other than the DOS and EB832? I would like to have some sensors too.

Sure. I’ll post a detailed description and all the codes needed. Other than the Dos and EB832, nice to haves are the magnetic MOS sensors. I place one just above the ideal water level in my sump and another one at a somewhat higher level in the sump that is just above the water level when all my pumps are off. The reason for doing this is prevent having too much water in the sump that will cause water to overflow the sump.
If either of these detectors are triggered I’ll initiate DOS to manually remove a fixed amount of water and repeat until both sensors are above water level.

The only other equipment is a Neptune LLS to measure the amount of NSW left in the storage tank

Hi Ian, I looked over my setup and it appears that for the basic AWC there’s no need to do any programming. Plug in the DOS to the Apex or EB832 via 1link or use the aquabus cable. And do the setup based on the video from neptune:



And then change the time that the DOS removes water and the time it adds NSW. For instance in my setup, I have it removing sump water between 12midnight and 2am

And then adding NSW between 2.05am to 4.05am.

I would have the DOS in my garage and I don’t think I can get an aquabus that would reach my brain in the house. I assume I would need another one?

Officially the aquabus can be 200’ max length. Maybe need to call up Neptune to find out if they sell a 200’ cable direct to customers. Apparently it’s possible to further than the 200’ but will need high quality low resistance cables. Sorry I don’t have that much more info.
