Back At It Finally - Waterbox 170

Tank is doing well. I have roughly 75 corals and a dozen fish. Everything is growing fast. Pics…

OK, so I’ve been neglecting this build thread. And that’s not because I’ve lost interest in the hobby. Quite the opposite. Here are my updates that I plan to share in more detail. If you have preferences on what you’d like to hear about, please jump in and tell me!

1. I moved the tank to a new home and built out a fish room
2. I started Moonshiners program (mistakes were made!)
3. I switched from dosing 2 part to a calcium reactor (Geo Super Silent Extreme)
4. I started a new build - 300G tank
5. Battled cyano for way too long

Hey man, this should make for an interesting read.

Glad the tank is still going!

So, I took the plunge on purchasing a calcium reactor. At the time, I was dosing 220ML of Alk and Calcium (BRS Soda Ash).

My intentions were:
- To have a steady supply of supplementation
- I needed something that could scale (as I’m buying everything sized appropriately for my next tank).
- I was also eager to have Strontium added (as it is nearly depleted every ICP)
- Calcium media is a bit cheaper after the initial purchase

I decided on the Gen 3 Geo Calcium reactor CR818 Super Silent Extreme. I was very excited about this reactor because it’s silent and efficiently uses CO2. For media I landed on Two Little Fishies Reborn (You can probably see I received different sizes).

Overall, I’m very happy with the Calcium Reactor. I’m presently using an MJ900 to push water through it. If I keep the calcium reactor I’m going to attempt to use a versa to pull, even through the reviews are mixed on longevity. I am not thrilled with controlling the flow through a gate valve, but it works.

My concern is with the extreme impact to my pH. With 2-part I was hovering between 8.05 to 8.3. Obviously there is a significant bump with Soda Ash. However with the Calcium Reactor I’m 7.7 to 8.0. Also, I do have an Algae Turf Scrubber that helps pH quite a bit.

At this point, I’m thinking through my options to chase pH :)

Hey bud, got any pics? How did the move go and have you upgraded to a new tank.
