Recently read a few disaster stories about tank crashes after power outages.I have a small battery backup(the kind used for computers)that has kept my tank running during short(few minutes)outages but with hurricane season aproaching im worried about longer problems,i also have a generator but setting it up for a few hours (3-4)will be a pain.so im looking for a solution to this.Power inverter hooked to my car with an extension cord?a small honda generator(the kind with a handle,$6-700)considering the money we have invested in our tanks what is everyones solutions?

add up the wattage your tank uses to purchase a suitable backup system. You can add up full power or "survival mode" Ie only return pump and chiller etc. I believe there are calculators online to help choose.
And yes your instincts are correct there are much larger versions using deep cycle car truck batteries that use the inverter. You'll find a solution in your price range.

Inverter :) to me the best way to go.
Generators can be used but has to be outside, cord gauge can not be too small. Refueling in the middle of the night is not fun in the winter times.
