I love the tank! Highly recommend getting it! Unfortunately I got ich in the tank and currently going through Hyposalinity (at day 23 right now).. I havnt plumbed Reefmat yet, I suck at my plumbing skills lol.. But I am tired of cleaning the socks! I recently ordered filter floss, hoping that it will be a use-and-throw kind, even though may need frequent changes.. I got a decent size skimmer so not really worried about filtration tbh, but still trying a few different things before going reef mat route!

Thanks for the reply! Sorry about the ich I’ve been through it as well.. twice!! lol.. my fault for not QT everything right off the bat 🤦‍♂️ . Now I just need to convince the wife we need a 6ft long tank instead of the 4ft waterbox we have now lol

Haha! I have the same tank and love it as well. Good luck with the sales job with the wife!

Major Update: Few weeks back a local guy was selling bunch of his fish as part of their tank breakdown.. I expressed in another thread, how my tank started to look boring without the tang energy after PBT passed away and I had to re-home Convict due to aggressiveness.. You dont feel energized if you dont enjoy it, and it was about time that I add some more color and energy to the tank.. Since I was getting out of the hypo period, I secured the deal by making a deposit and recently added bunch of new fish to the tank! I know, it isnt advisable to add such a big bio-load at the same time, specially right after a lengthy Hypo stretch, but I just couldn't resist buying the vibrant batch of fish! Brace yourself, this is what I added to the tank at the same time:

1 Biota yellow tang (Yes, another one coz I just love yellow tangs)
1 Tomini tang
1 Blonde Naso
1 Orange shoulder juvenile yellow/orange
1 Marine betta (such a beauty!)
1 Midas blenny (Seller had 2 of these, unfortunately 1 died while he was taking the fish out of his tank - absolutely love the personality of the blenny I have)
3 golden head sleeper gobies (Seller had 4 of these, unfortunately 1 died while he was taking the fish out of his tank)
3 royal gammas
1 rosy scale wrasse sub male
1 juvenile lineatus wrasse
1 Brunneus wrasse
1 Katoi wrasse
1 Super male yellow coris
1 Radiant wrasse
1 Orange back wrasse
1 Magnificent foxface (2 inch, very very cute little fish)
2 green chromis (making it a total of 7 Chromis in my tank now)
1 aiptasia eating file fish (Seller had 2 of these, unfortunately 1 died while he was taking the fish out of his tank.. I already had 1 in my tank, so now I have 2)
1 Flame angel
3 onyx true percula clowns (Total of 5 Clowns in my tank now)
1 Watchman Goby
1 Pistol Shrimp and 1 Cleaner Shrimp (Havent seen them since day 1, but I hope they are alive - though I know Wrasses might have already had a good expensive meal)

Original Stock:
1 Blue tang
3x Yellow Tangs (total 4 now)
5x Chromis (total 7 now)
3 Pajama Cardinals
2 Clowns (Black Storm and Oscellaris and added 3 more Percula Clowns, total 5 now)
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 FileFish (total 2 now)

As I imagined, the new Chromis, Yellow and Clowns faced some aggression for a couple of days, but to my surprise, nothing serious and actually it kinda made the tank look better as the 3x Yellow Tangs that were very shy earlier became so outgoing after adding this new bunch of fish that were really outgoing! Now all of them roam together with very little chasing and aggression..

Unfortunately 1 of the golden head sleeper gobies which was eating very well and looked healthy was found dead 3 days after the addition, couldn't find a reason yet but no more casualties after that - I have 2 of them now and they have turned over the sand in my tank at least 1 zillion times since they were added.. Sand looks clean but very uneven, guess giving it more of a natural reef kinda vibe.

There was a bacterial bloom that lasted 4-5 days that made the tank look cloudy, but that seems to have subsided! I also started skimming wet after suggestions from @H2OPlayar in addition to running Carbon Rox 0.8, Filter Floss and UV (24*7).. I did the white bucket test, and the water didnt look too yellow.

Marine Betta was very shy for 1st few days, I hand fed Mysis shrimp and now if come to eat more easily.. Love to watch it open it's big mouth almost as if I am watching a horror movie! Midas Blenny has found a spot right in a rock that's right in the middle of the tank.. Looks so cool when it goes back in and come out from that small hole!

I always wanted a Blonde Naso, this one looks a bit thin, trying to feed more to bulk it up!

Also, getting a pair of Mandarins from @newfly that I will add to my tank soon, and I guess with that I will have whatever is needed to have a tank of my dreams (corals next)! All in all, I am loving the energy and color in my tank! I know things can go south real fast, but I am keeping my finger crossed.. Managing diseases with UV and variety of healthy food is my plan to keep things as they should be!

Here is a small video of how the tank looks like at the moment:

After being MIA for over 45 days, look who finally showed up! I added Pistol Shrimp and watchman goby together, and the pair got lost! I could not spot the pistol shrimp the day after I added it to the tank, I assumed it became an expensive meal for my wrasses.. A week ago, goby started moving bases from it's usual place.. I thought it was trying to find a better place away from all the flashy wrasses ! Until today, when I saw both of them together and pistol shrimp doing its thing, decorating their home! So pumped to see these guys together! :D

Also found cleaner shrimp hanging upside down in a cave, working on my flame angel and few other fish!

My tang dream dude looking great.

Added a nem and clowns started hosting them almost immediately! Love this symbiotic relationship, something I always wanted to see in my tank! <3

Also added a pair of biota mandarins.. added copepods once but spotted them eating frozen and pellets so just spot feeding them now, they have become more outgoing and can see the love dance sometimes during the evening.

Here is a quick video of clowns hosting the nem I took today:

Last Night I saw (at least) 5 snails under 1 single rock.. That could have meant only 1 thing - a death in my tank.. I kept on changing angles on my phone to see what died, tried to check inhabitants in the tank but since it was night time, it was very hard to check on all inhabitants.

Woke up in the morning today to see 1 of the 2 Emerald Crabs upside down, outside the same rock. Other 1 seems to be doing ok.. I dosed BRS Calcium Chloride to bump up Ca from 380 to 410 and BRS Soda Ash to bump up Alk from 8.3 to 9 a couple of days ago.. Have been dosing LC manually (same dose every day) for a month now.. Gemini says Emerald Crabs in particular are sensitive to alk and other swings.. not sure if dosing Ca or Soda Ash could have caused this or something else.

Everything looked hunky dory, until it wasn't.. Lost 2 of the bigger Chromis in last few days to what seems like aggression from other Chromis (or other fish?) in the group.. I saw red injury marks (ruling out Uronema, but folks can look at the attached videos to suggest otherwise) and tattered fins on both the Chromis that died.. Interesting that the 2 bigger ones, that have been with me for over 7 months, died first.. the 3 smaller ones I added in February still roam around in the open while the other 3 bigger Chromis from the 1st batch seem to be always hiding in the rocks since last few weeks - something is definitely cooking! I don't see any aggression happening in front of my eyes, wondering if it happens after lights out.. I can think of couple of things that changed during last few weeks -
  1. I added bunch of corals from tank breakdown and frag swap
  2. I reduced feeding from 2x a day to 1x a day to combat nutrients problem in the tank.
No new fish has been added recently. Intuitively speaking, #2 may play a factor in increased aggression, coz they all have been fine together for months.. I got 6 more Chromis in the tank now.. I hope the saying "In a school of Chromis, only the strongest one survives" is wrong! Here are a couple of videos

Chromis #1 (died 17th May):

Chromis #2 (died 20th May):

Picked up up a few torches, hammers and zoas last week that I bought from a few supporting members and FB marketplace. Not too happy with their placement currently, I am sure I will be moving them around very soon!

Torches: Dragon Tamer, Indo Gold Torch, Ultra Bright Indo Blue Tip Torch, CC 21 tails torch, Dragon Soul, New York Knicks.

Planning to do more regular testing (until I buy APEX/Hydros) and frequent water changes to replenish nutrients. Not comfortable right now with manual dosing, so I guess water changes is the best alternative!

Tank is looking really nice! I set up the same tank in October last year. Love the tank.

Get a doser. So much easier and precise to keep alk and cal inline among other things. I also love daily auto water changes I'm doing. Between the doser and the AWC, my parameters stay very steady.

Long due update..

Couple of months back I randomly posted in facebook groups "LF: LPS or Softies colonies.. nothing exclusive or too expensive.. just got bored looking at the rocks, so want to cover them with some color! Feel free to DM me what you have - torches, hammers, zoas whatever with prices!".. a lot of folks replied and I got to see some of the most wonderful LPS and Softies fellow reefers carry in their tanks.. I bought a few of the colonies from fellow reefers and started researching more and more, and soon got absolutely obsessed with these.. A few online auctions and live sales, few trades, and some other frags and colonies later, this is how the tank looks like:

3d printed frag plug holders have been an absolute game changer for me personally.. I can just move around the frags if I don't like their positioning or feel that they don't like their positioning.

I also got APEX system with Trident ACM and NP and dosing AFR and a little bit of Magnesium every day to keep the nutrients stable.. My Alk fluctuates from 8.2 to 8.5, this is last 7 days graph:

Calcium sits around 380ish and Magnesium at 1350ish.

Also ordered ICP kit (finally).. will send it for testing hopefully next week. Knowing myself, ICP results will probably throw me deep down the rabbit hole of changing things around.. I just hope it wont be the start of another mini-project for me.. only time will tell!

Ordered Orphek lens and took some picture.. Truly amazing results.. highly recommended for anyone who doesnt have a DSLR or other expensive cameras.. Sharing some pictures I took today
